Short bio

PlugnSessions is a live session series and band that rebuilds familiar songs on the spot: soul, highlife, Afrobeats, gospel and R&B rearranged for a full band and a room of listeners. The series has recorded sessions in Seattle, New York and Accra and played live in Dallas, Houston, Oakland and Washington DC.

Long bio

PlugnSessions began as an open room for musicians to plug in and play for each other. There was no set list and no audience to impress, just players trading arrangements of songs they grew up on. That format became the whole identity: take a song people already know, strip it down, and rebuild it live with whoever is in the room.

The series now runs as numbered episodes released on YouTube alongside full live sets. The New York run covers Erykah Badu, Floetry, Al Green, Tevin Campbell and Asake. The Accra run, made with Ghanaian collective West Coast Ebusua, works through Fela, K. Frimpong, Kojo Antwi and the Fugees. The Seattle run, recorded at Avast Studios, takes songs from Adele to Bob Marley apart and rebuilds them. Separate sets have been recorded in Houston, Oakland and Dallas, and the band released Praise & Worship, Vol. 1 through PlugnRecords.

Live, PlugnSessions performs as a five- to nine-piece with rotating guest vocalists. The show works in listening rooms, museums, festivals, church programmes and private events, anywhere the arrangement can breathe.

Technical requirements

Typical band size: 5–9 pieces (drums, bass, keys, guitar, horns, 2–3 vocals)
Set length: 60–120 minutes, or two sets with an interval
Sound: Full FOH PA with monitors, minimum 16-channel desk, DI for keys and bass
Backline: Drum kit, bass amp, keyboard stand and X-stand, 3 vocal mics minimum
Stage: Minimum 5m x 4m; warm stage lighting preferred over strobes
Load-in: Three hours before doors for setup, line check and soundcheck
